The world is buzzing with excitement over the latest solar eclipse. Enthusiasts from all over the globe have flocked to Exmouth, a small town in Western Australia, to witness the awe-inspiring sight of the sun appearing as a black hole in the sky. Depending on where they live along Earth’s curved surface, some people will see a total eclipse while others will see an annular one. One person who has dedicated her career to studying solar eclipses is Shadia Habbal. A Syrian-American astronomer and physicist, Habbal is a professor of Solar physics whose research focuses on Solar wind and Solar eclipse. She has led a group of scientists known as the “Solar Wind Sherpas” on expeditions to observe total solar eclipses all over the world. Their observations have led to surprising discoveries about the Sun’s wind and its outer atmosphere – the corona – which can only be fully seen during an eclipse. It's an exciting time for astronomy enthusiasts and scientists alike as we continue to learn more about our universe through events like solar eclipses.
